New Delhi: IndiGo is ready to do its bit to protect environment.
The private airline chose World Environment Day on Sunday to announce unique and innovative measures to cut down water and fuel consumption on its flights.
The airline informed that it has already successfully conducted trials in 200 flights with a new water faucet which reduces water consumption by 5.4 litre per hour.
IndiGo explained that the new installation has helped save 12.42 litres of water per flight for an average length of 138 minutes. IndiGo currently operates 1,500 flights every day with an average duration of 98 minutes.
The new water faucet will bring down water consumption on one flight by 8.82 litres, thus saving 13,230 litres of water per day. This could also be applied to long flights, IndiGo noted.
The reduced water usage on flights will contribute to fuel savings by reducing carbon emissions by 930.75 Kg CO2/m3 per year, IndiGo added.
They are set to be the first airline worldwide to adopt these measures for water conservation on board the aircraft.
“As a leading airline, we have a special responsibility towards the environment and ESG is therefore one of our top corporate goals,” stated IndiGo President & Chief Operating Officer Wolfgang Prock-Schauer.
