Malkangiri: In breakthrough of a man’s murder over sorcery suspicion at Tumsapalli village under Malkangiri Sadar police limits here, the Malkangiri police arrested a person on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Muka Madakami (55) and the accused has been identified as Rama Sodi (60), resident of the same locality.
According to the police in-charge Ram Prasad Nag, Rama’s son died of unidentified disease six-months ago. Rama suspected that his son died due to some evil spirit by Muka.
In a fit of rage, Rama brutally killed Muka on the suspicion of practising sorcery. Madakami died on the spot after being attacked by a sharp weapon.
Police arrested the accused and had recovered sharp and blunt objects from the spot. The official registered a case (281/20) in this regard. Later Rama admitted his blunder.
Despite the implementation of the Orissa Prevention of Witch-Hunting, Act, 2013, that entails penalty and punishment for practising and abetting sorcery, this practice still continues.
