Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested one person for allegedly posting derogatory comments against BJP’s MLA candidate for Nayagarh in Odisha.
Police sources said a complaint was filed against the accused, Ramakant Panda of Haripur village under Itamati police station in the district, on Wednesday for posting the derogatory comment against the BJP candidate and Nayagarh queen Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh in the social media.
The police registered a case under IT Act and started investigation. Hundreds of women also took out a rally in support of Singh and demanded stern action against the person who was trying to tarnish her image.
The comment in foul language was posted in Facebook address “Ama Pain Bada, Ama Naygarh”, the sources said.
Nayagarh SDPO Sudarshan Gangoi told the media that the cyber cell of Nayagarh police had registered the case on the basis of the complaint. “We have been keeping a close watch on the social media as per the directions of the Election Commission under model code of conduct. As part of the process, the accused was identified,” he said.
The SDP further said the accused had posted the comment with an objectionable picture of the complainant in his personal ID. During questioned, he has confessed to have committed the crime. He was produced in the court after the arrest, he added.
