Bhubaneswar: The GST officials have arrested a person in Jharsuguda district for his alleged involvement in tax fraud amounting to over Rs 5 crore.
According to a release of Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence, Bhubaneswar zone, the person had availed Input Tax Credit to the tune of Rs 5.02 crore by using fake invoices/bill to the extent of Rs 27.9 crore wherein goods and services have not been availed.
Besides, he had raised invoices worth Rs 20 crore and passed fraudulent ITC of about Rs 4 crore without supply of goods or services. He was arrested following detailed investigation and searches on multiple premises. He was produced before the Rourkela SDJM Court which remanded him to judicial custody on Wednesday.
The arrest is in relation to the fake ITC racket unearthed by the GST officials last week. The racket involved Rs 40 crore of fake ITC and Rs 262 crore of fake tax invoices. One person was arrested in this connection on December 16.
