Rayagada: A 32-year-old man has been arrested on charges of spreading fake news on Facebook about spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Odisha’s Rayagada.
He has been identified as Satyanarayan Samal aka Dipu (32), a resident of Ambadola.
He had posted this message on Facebook: “One person came to Rayagada with COVID-19 infection from Kerala and admitted to the district headquarters hospital.”
Rayagada Collector Pramod Kumar Behera had directed police to conduct an inquiry. And a case was registered after the news was found to be false.
The arrest came on the day, the Odisha cabinet approved the Odisha Covid-19 Regulations 2020 and made spreading of any unauthenticated information and/or rumors regarding
COVID-19 a punishable offence.
