One More Criminal Hurt In Police Encounter In Cuttack

Cuttack: The commissionerate police, in its drive against the anti-socials, nabbed one more history-sheeter after an encounter near Brahmanjharilo village under Sadar police limits limits late on Monday.

The injured criminal, identified as Juga alias Basir Khan who sustained bullet injury on his left leg, is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

Acting on a tip-off on the movement of Basir near Brahmanjharilo village, a special squad of commissionerate police and a team of Sadar Police raided the area at night.

As Basir tried to escape by throwing a bomb at the police, the latter opened fire in which a bullet hit his left leg.

Police later seized three live country bombs from his possession and rushed him to the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Basir was involved in the hurling of country bombs at a contractor and a PCR van at Kurunti village under Sadar police limits on May 18 in which two policemen were injured.

In retaliation, police had nabbed the prime accused Uttam Singh alias Kabo of Kurunti village, one of the associates of Basir, after an encounter near Gothapatna area on May 19 night.
