Bhubaneswar: One person died and 30 others were injured when a tourist bus fell off a bridge after crashing into its sidewall near Khandisi square under Ranpur block in Nayagarh district due to dense fog late on Thursday.
According to sources, the accident took place between midnight and 1 am when vehicle, carrying more than 40 passengers, from Gunthuni village in Khandapada block was en route to Kalijai Temple. Fire fighters, police and locals rescued the injured and rushed them to nearby community health centres. Those with severe injuries were later shifted to Bhubaneswar.
“We were on our way to Kalijai when the driver lost control of the bus due to dense fog and it veered off the bridge. Many passengers have been severely injured in the mishap,” said an injured passenger undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Another injured said that the accident took place when the driver was unable to navigate the curved road due to fog.
