Sundargarh: A driver was burnt to death early Thursday morning after two trucks collided head-on in front of DBL camp at Ratanasara under Hemgiri police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
According to sources, the accident occurred around 5 am when a coal-laden truck travelling from Sundargarh towards Ray
agada collided with an oncoming truck carrying iron ore. The impact caused the coal-laden truck to catch fire, trapping its driver inside the cabin. He was unable to escape and is believed to have died from burn injuries.
Locals alerted Hemgiri police and fire services, who rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze. However, the coal-laden truck was almost completely gutted by the time the flames were brought under control.
The second truck had overturned on the roadside after the crash and its driver, who sustained minor injuries, was rescued and admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Hemgiri.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.
