Rourkela: Jumbo scare gripped Rourkela after a youth was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Kaduapani village under Nuagaon block in Sundargarh district in the early hours on Friday.
The incident happened around 3 am when the youth identified as Ishak Kuzur had gone out of his house to attend nature’s call. The wild animal grabbed Kuzur by its trunk, lifted him off and threw him away. He died on the spot.
Forest officials, who reached the spot, said that the elephant is among the herd of 16 jumbos that have entered into the human settlements and destroyed three houses and
agricultural fields in the village and nearby areas.
“The movement of elephants are being closely monitored and effective measures will be taken accordingly to prevent elephants from entering human habitations”, a forest official informed.
