One Dead, Several Injured As Van Carrying Students To R-Day Parade Overturns In Odisha

Cuttack: One person died while several others were injured when a pick-up van transporting school students to a Republic Day parade venue overturned in Banki area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday.

The deceased was a Class X student.

According to sources, the accident took place when 25 students of Malaviharapur High School were on their way to Saranda parade ground near Ansupa Lake to participate in Republic Day celebrations. The injured students were immediately rushed to the nearby government health facility at Athagarh for treatment. Nine among them were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.

Police have started an investigation into the matter.
