Jajpur: One person died while three were critically injured when an ambulance, carrying a patient from West Bengal to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, crashed into a dumper on NH 16 at Chandikhole in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday morning.
According to sources, the ambulance rammed into a dumper parked alongside the national highway near Chandikhole railway overbridge. The patient died on the spot.
On being informed, a NH patrolling team along with Chandikhole Fire Service personnel arrived at the mishap spot and rescued the injured. They were first taken to Barchana community health centre and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
It is being suspected that driver fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the accident. Visuals from the spot showed heavily mangled remains of the ambulance, pointing to the intensity of the crash.
