Angul: One person died while another sustained critical injuries when a speeding truck rammed the motorcycle they were riding in Odisha’s Angul town early on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Bikram Routray of Jagatsinghpur district and the injured as Karanveer Gopi.
According to reports, Routray and Gopi worked in a private company and the accident took place around 5.30 am near Prashanti Hotel when they were heading to their workplace. While Routray died on the spot, Gopi was immediately rushed to district headquarters hospital for treatment.
Hundreds of vehicles, however, remained stranded on the highway for more than an hour as irate locals blocked road traffic placing the body on the road, demanding action and improved safety measures. Normalcy was restored after Angul police intervened and placated the angry protestors.
While the body has been for postmortem, a manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding truck driver, sources added.
