Sonepur: A large consignment of cough syrup was seized during illegal transportation and one person arrested by the police in Rampur area of Odisha’s Sonepur district.
Police said on Saturday that two vehicles used for transporting the illegal consignment were also seized, while t
hree other accused managed to escape and a hunt is underway to nab then.
The consignment comprised over 9,000 bottles of contraband cough syrup. The arrested person has been identified as Gulshan Sahoo, a resident of Satalama village in Bargarh district.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team laid a trap in the village. When a vehicle carrying the consignment approached, the team members intercepted it and conducted a search in the presence of a magistrate. During the operation, more than 9,000 bottles of illegal cough syrup were recovered.
Further investigation is underway to track down the absconding suspects and determine the exact nature of the network engaged in illegal trade.
