Bargarh/Angul: One person was killed and 24 injured, 16 of them seriously, in separate road accidents in Odisha’s Bargarh and Angul districts on Thursday morning.
In Bargarh, one person was killed and 16 were seriously injured when a pick-up van, in which they were travelling, hit the wall of a bridge near Ghensa under Padmapur police limits.
While the identity of the deceased is yet to be established, police have admitted the 16 seriously injured persons, including four babies, in the hospital.
Police said a total of 25 people of Babupali area in Nuapada district were on their way to Deogarh in a pick-up van to collect Kendu leaves when the mishap took place.
The body of the deceased has been sent to Bargarh district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.
In another accident, eight passengers were injured when a private bus overturned near Tube under Jarpada police limits in Angul district.
The ill-fated private bus, carrying 25 passengers, was on its way to Bhubaneswar from Nuapada when the driver lost control over the vehicle, police said.
The injured have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
