Aurangabad: One person was killed and more than 30 were injured in clashes that broke out in Aurangabad on Friday night. Over 40 vehicles and shops in Shahgunj and Chelipura were set on fire.
According to the reports, 10 policemen, including three junior officers, were also injured. Section 144 has been imposed and police have been deployed in the town to maintain law and order.
A cut in water connection in the area due to uncleared bills reportedly led to the clash. Things took an ugly turn at one of the religious places as people became violent, according to initial information.
Hundreds of youths took to the streets and started pelting police with stones. Policemen had to resort to teargas shelling to keep the situation under control. Among the injured was a 17-year-old boy of Rengtipura, who sustained severe injuries and was admitted to MGM hospital.
Senior police authorities refused to speak about firing and teargas shells but videos of the same have gone viral. Police are suspecting the role of an independent corporator in instigating the violence.
