Jharsuguda: A labourer was killed and another person sustained injuries in an explosion at a stone quarry in Ranpeta village of Jharsuguda district on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Suresh Kisan. The injured person was admitted to VIMSAR in Burla in a critical condition.
The incident took place when stone blasting activity was underway at the stone quarry.
According to sources, the victim was unaware of the blasting and reached near the site. Unfortunately, the explosives fixed there went off suddenly, killing him on the spot.
The locals alleged that the stone quarry was operating illegally in the area floating safety rules. They demanded immediate action against the persons who are responsible for the mishap and compensation for the family of the deceased.
