Jharsuguda: In a tragic incident, one person was killed in a road mishap at Pipilimala village under Belpahad police limits in Jharsuguda on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Ajamber Kisan (50), a resident of Pipilimala village.
According to sources, Kisan was mowed down by an unidentified vehicle when he had gone to attend nature’s call in the morning.
Irate locals staged a blockade on NH-49, demanding arrest of the driver and compensation for the deceased’s kin.
On being informed, Jharsuguda Additional Tehsildar Prasanna Patel along with Belpahad IIC and Lakhanpur IIC reached the spot.
It was only after the district administration announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s relief fund and Rs 15,000 from the Red Cross fund, did the locals allow the movement of the vehicles.
