Nayagarh: One person died while six others sustained serious injuries after a passenger bus rammed a marble-laden truck on NH-57 near Itamati village in Odisha’s Nayagarh district of Odisha in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Amar Chand, a primary teacher of Junagarh area in Kalahandi district. The bus was en route to Bhubaneswar from Bhawanipatna and he was due to participate in the ongoing teachers’ protest, sources said.
The incident occurred around 3 am.
On being informed, Itamati police and Fire service personnel reached the spot and rescued the injured persons with the help of locals.
The injured were taken to the district headquarters hospital, where the doctors declared Chand brought dead. Two among the critically injured were later shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.
Meanwhile, police have seized both vehicles and started an investigation.
