Rajgangpur: A woman worker died and three others were seriously injured following a blast inside a cement factory at Rajgangpur in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Wednesday afternoon.
According to sources, a group of workers were engaged in cleaning of Line-3 blast furnace inside the factory of Odisha Cement Ltd (now OCL India Ltd, a subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat) when it suddenly exploded. As a result, four workers, including a woman worker, were seriously injured.
The injured workers were admitted to a hospital where the woman succumbed to her injuries. The condition of the three injured workers is critical, hospital sources said.
As tension ran high in the plant, the district administration deployed one platoon of force at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
“A mishap happened today at our cement manufacturing facility, Dalmia DSP Unit 1 at Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district at around 1630 IST. One worker, Rashmi Kujur sustained burn injuries and was quickly evacuated to a hospital in Rourkela but unfortunately, she could not be saved despite urgent medical treatment. We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and will extend all help to them in this hour of grief. We are investigating the cause of the accident on an immediate basis and are extending all cooperation to the local administration,” said a statement issued by Dalmia Cement.
