Dhenkanal: A labourer reportedly sustained critical injuries as the roof of an under-construction building collapsed and four others were feared trapped under the debris in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.
According to sources, around 10 labourers were engaged in construction of the roof of a high portico of a five-storey building at Mahisapata in Dhenkanal town on the day. They were laying mixture of concrete and stone chips for construction of the roof of a portico at a height of around 40 feet. The roof was being constructed with the support of four pillars.
While the workers were busy in their work, the support to the structure gave way and all of them fell down. While some labourers escaped with minor injuries, other workers at the site pulled one from the debris. He sustained critical injuries on both hands.
On being informed, local police and Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and sent the injured labourer to the local hospital. They also started the work to rescue 4-5 labourers trapped under the debris of the collapsed roof.
