Baripada: Villagers rescued a one-month-old baby girl abandoned in a forest in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday.
As per reports, some women of Gaugadhi village under Champajhar panchayat in Thakurmunda block of the district had gone to the nearby forest to pluck leaves in the morning. On approaching the forest, they heard the cry of a baby.
On tracing the cries, they found the baby girl wrapped in a cloth lying on the ground. They searched for the baby’s mother in nearby areas and also called for her.
As nobody came forward, the women informed their sarpanch Bikram Pingua about the baby. The sarpanch along with ASHA workers went to the spot. On verifying that the baby’s mother was not there, the ASHA workers took her to the community health centre (CHC) at Thakurmunda.
On checking the baby, the doctors of the CHC said she was 20-25 days old and her condition was stable.
