Bargarh: One more person is suspected to have died due to scrub typhus in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Saturday.
According to sources, the patient was admitted to a private nursing home in the district and was undergoing treatment. He succumbed to the disease. But no official confirmation about the death occurred due to scrub typhus has been made so far.
With this, the total number of deaths due to the disease in the district have gone up to six. Five persons have died of scrub typhus in the district since August 31, according to official figure.
Meanwhile, a three-member medical team from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla visited Bargarh to investigate into the death. The team comprises assistant professor Dr Shankar Ramchandani, assistant professor and microbiologist Dr Satyabrat Thakur and assistant professor of community medicine Dr Udaya Kumar Nayak.
Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Jitendra Mohan Bebarta said testing arrangement has been made at CHC in Bargarh for anti-body tests with ELISA technique.
“So far, 376 tests have been conducted and 11 of those tested positive. Of 62 tests conducted on Saturday, nobody tested positive for the disease,” he said.
