Burla: The Hirakud dam authorities on Saturday opened one more gate of the dam to release floodwaters.
By 9 am, the discharge and inflow of the floodwaters from eight gates were 1,20,795 cusecs and 1,48,012 cusecs per second, respectively.
As another low pressure set to form in the west-central Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours and trigger heavy rainfall in upper catchments of Mahanadi, the dam authorities have decided to open more gates.
At present, the water level of the dam is 608.31 feet against the maximum level of 630 feet.
