Bhubaneswar: Continuing its drive against violation of COVID guidelines after the state government allowed partial relaxation in operation of shops and markets in the capital city, the BMC on Saturday closed several shops in Old Town and Pokhariput areas.
A team of south-west zone of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out raids in Pokhariput to ensure implementation of COVID guidelines.
During the raids, the team detected violation of the norms by customers and shop owners in Lingaraj market and closed those. The team also collected Rs 2,000 towards penalty from the violators.
Similarly, the BMC team carried out raids in Old Town area and sealed the shops which were crowded in violation of the government guidelines.
The BMC on Friday ordered closure of VSS Nagar daily market for mass violation of COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. Similar action was taken against several daily markets including Bapuji Nagar and Uni IV fish market earlier.
