Cuttack: Swine flu claimed one more life late on Sunday, taking the death toll in the state this season to 17.
The deceased was identified as Sumitra Biswal (36), a native of Balasore. The woman succumbed to the viral influenza while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here. She was admitted to the hospital 10 days ago.
The SCB, so far, has recorded four swine flu deaths with fresh cases pouring in almost every day.
Two more patients, undergoing treatment at SCB and a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, had also died on Sunday. The day also saw 11 more persons testing positive for the H1N1 virus. These fresh cases were reported from SCB Medical College and Hospital (5), Apollo Hospital (2) and one each from Sum Hospital, Kar Clinic and Vivekananda Hospital.
According to health department sources, 227 people have so far been infected with the disease and undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the state.
