One Student Drowns, Another Goes Missing In River In Odisha’s Sundargarh

Rourkela: A school student drowned and another went missing while taking bath in Koel river in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Saturday.

According to sources, the two boys, Priyanshu Bhol, a student of Class VIII and Ranjan Padhy of Class IX were studying in an English medium school in Basanti Colony of Rourkela. They were staying in labour tenement in the city.

After their classes were over on the day, they along with two others had gone to take bath in the river near a railway bridge at Pradhanpali. While bathing, Priyanshu and Ranjan slipped and went into deep water of the river.

As they started drowning and cried for help, the two others rushed to the locality and told the people about the incident. By the time the locals rushed to the river, the two boys had gone missing.

On being informed, a team of police and Fire personnel went to the spot and started a search operation. After searching in the river for more than an hour, they found the body of Priyanshu and brought it ashore. But Ranjan had not been found till the report was filed.

Police have sent Priyanshu’s body for post-mortem and started an investigation.
