Puri: A youth drowned while another went missing while bathing in sea in Odisha’s Puri district on Monday.
According to sources, three young friends had come with a group of people from Jagatsinghpur on a picnic to Pirjahani sea beach in Astaranga of the district in the morning. After the picnic was over, the three youths went to bath in the sea in the evening.
While bathing near the coast, they were dragged into deep sea by a strong current and started drowning. As they cried for help, some locals went to their rescue. They managed to catch hold of two youths and brought them to the shore.
While one youth was found dead, the locals rushed the other, who was alive but unconscious, to the community health centre (CHC) at Astaranga. After checking him, the doctors referred him to another hospital.
On being informed, police went to the spot and launched a search operation along with Fire personnel and local people to trace the missing youth.
