Online Medical Certificates Mandatory For DL From Jan 26 In Odisha

Cuttack: Further streamlining its services for vehicle users as per 5T initiative, the Odisha government has made online issuance of medical certificate mandatory for availing driving licence (DL) and its renewal from January 26.

To make the process more transparent and to ensure proper medical test by genuine doctors, the State Transport Authority (STA) has developed a new online registration portal where about 167 MBBS doctors having MCI registration have registered.

Medical certificate is mandatory for any person above 40 years of age who wishes to get a driving licence or those going for driving licence renewal as per Motor Vehicle Act.

Giving details, Joint Commissioner Transport, Technical, Dipti Ranjan Patra said a total of 167 doctors have registered on the portal. Any doctor with MBBS degree or above is eligible to register on the portal. Registration of doctors is completely free of cost.

The medical certificate of a person of more than 40 years of age applying for issuance of Learner licence or driving licence or its renewal can be presented online in the form 1 (A) rather than doing it manually, he said in a statement.

It was decided to issue of medical certificate in form 1 (A) electronically under the 5T policy of the state government to improve the ease of getting driving license and to have better user experience and to reduce footfall in RTO offices.

This will also ensure no one can upload a fake medical certificate and get a driving license. In order to make whole system transparent, the portal is launched where in license applicant can directly get medical certificate without hassle.

At present the applicants are obtaining a manual doctor certificate in a paper format and uploading in the SARATHI portal at the time of online application. In this process the correctness of the medical certificate cannot be ascertained.

The registered doctors will now issue medical certificate to DL & LL applicant through online SARATHI portal and no uploading of form 1A would be required. The details of such doctors are available on web portal of SARATHI.
