OPHWC Deputy Manager Sent To Jail After Arrest By Odisha Vigilance



Bhubaneswar: Deputy Manager of the Sambalpur Division of the Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC), Bidyut Ranjan Bhol, was on Thursday remanded to judicial custody till April 15 after being arrested by Vigilance for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Bhol was arrested by Vigilance officials for allegedly possessing assets over 400 per cent beyond his known sources of income, which he reportedly failed to explain satisfactorily.

In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station registered a case under Sec

tions 13(2) read with 13(1)(b)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 against Bhol and his spouse. He was produced before the court of Special Judge, Vigilance, in Sambalpur and remanded to jail.

The arrest followed his interception on March 31, after which simultaneous searches were conducted at six locations linked to him on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur.

During the searches, Vigilance officials unearthed assets worth crores in the name of Bhol and his family members. The seized assets include two multi-storeyed buildings, one flat in Bhubaneswar, and 29 plots located in Jatni, Berhampur and other places.

Besides immovable properties, gold weighing 1.140 kg, including six gold coins and two gold biscuits, and 751 grams of silver were recovered. Cash amounting to Rs 48.79 lakh and deposits worth Rs 81.83 lakh were also detected.

Further investigation into the case is in progress.
