Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 3 pm on Monday as the Opposition Congress and BJP members demanded a discussion on the rising incidents of rape and sexual abuse of minor girls and missing children in the state.
As soon as the House session began at 10.30 am, Speaker Surya Narayan Patro announced resumption of the question hour.
However, the BJP members urged the Speaker to cancel the question hour and initiate a discussion on the missing children and sexual atrocities against minor girls in Sundargarh and Dhenkanal districts. As the Speaker stuck to his decision, the BJP members rushed to the well of the House and shouted slogans near his podium. The Congress members also stood up and made similar demands.
As pandemonium prevailed in the House, the Speaker adjourned the House till 3 pm.
Talking to mediapersons later, leader of the Opposition Pradipta Naik said the BJP had requested the Speaker to initiate a thorough discussion in the House over the matter to find a permanent solution.
“The Chief Minister is remaining absent in the House as he is not willing to give a clarification on this matter. The BJD members seems to have no access to the Chief Minister to take up the issue. Since this incident has brought shame for Odisha, the state government has to act tough,” Naik said.
