Cuttack: Alleging large scale irregularities in the allotment of ‘pindis’ at the urban haat in Chhatra Bazar area of the city, opposition corporators created a ruckus in the council meeting of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Monday.
Mounting a scathing attack on Mayor Subash Singh and senior officials, Congress corporators accused the civic body of showing undue favour to chosen traders who own big godowns in spot allotment at the urban haat.
BJP corporators also raised the issue and accused the Mayor of trying to evade discussion on the issue.
As the proceedings at the meeting were disrupted, the opposition corporators told reporters outside that a committee had been constituted for spot allotment at uban haat.
However, the committee played little role in the allotment for which the authorities collected Rs 20,000 from beneficiaries, they claimed, and sought to know as to why the money was collected as the CMC maintains that pindis are yet to be allotted.
Accusing the CMC of giving incorrect information regarding pindi allotment and other issues, the opposition corporators said that the role of the Mayor in the whole episode should be probed.
