Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till Saturday amid uproar by the Congress over farmers’ issue.
Speaker Pradip Amat, who had adjourned the House till 12.14 pm during commencement of question-hour session due to the uproar by the Congress members demanding cancellation of the question hour and a discussion on the issues of the farmers of the state, was forced to adjourn the House till tomorrow as the uproar persisted during the Zero Hour.
As soon as the House reassembled during the Zero Hour, the Congress members rushed to the well of the House reiterating their demand for a discussion on the issue. The BJP members supported the demand. Unable to run the proceedings, the Speaker adjourned the House till the next day.
Leader of the Opposition Narasingha Mishra said the Congress had urged the Speaker to cancel the question-hour session and initiate discussion on the issues of the farmers considering its significance. He also said that the state government successfully foiled the agitation of the NNKS in gross violation of the democratic norms.
BJD spokesperson Samir Dash said since the Speaker had accepted the adjournment motion notice of the Congress, the issue could have been discussed during the session. “The people of Odisha, who have rejected the Congress for its unruly behaviour, will not tolerate its activity in the House,” he pointed out.
