New Delhi: It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s turn to reply to the no-confidence motion on Thursday, at the end of three days of discussion and debate.
Modi started his speech around 5.10 pm. An hour and a half later, the Opposition parties walked out of Lok Sabha as the PM continued to hit out against Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi, who had spoken earlier during the debate.
For the first hour and a half of his speech, Modi didn’t talk on the Manipur violence issue.
“This no-confidence motion had two objectives — first, people of Manipur should get justice and second, PM Modi should speak on Manipur issue,” said Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi after Opposition staged a walkout during Modi’s speech.
Modi watched the opposition leaders leaving the House, and said, “They don’t have the patience to listen,” slamming their ‘shoot and scoot’ policy.
The PM assured that “India is with Manipur, India is with the women of Manipur.”
The government won the no-confidence motion by a voice vote as the Opposition benches were all empty.
