Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for seven districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Kataka, till 4.44 pm on Friday.
Moderate rain along with thunderstorm and lightning may occur at a few places in the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kataka (including Kataka city), Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Khordha (including Bhubaneswar) and Mayurbhanj within 2 to 3
hours.
Earlier, an yellow alert was issued for the twin cities and 18 districts – for Baragada, Sonpur, Sambalpur, Jagatsinghpur, Puri Kendrapada, Baleshwar, Bhadrak,khordha, Anugola, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kataka, Dhenkanal and Jajpur districts – till 3 pm.

Heavy rains have been lashing many parts of the state since Wednesday amid formation of the first low pressure area of the season. The system, which persists over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts, is likely to become more marked during the next two days. Under its influence, parts of the state will continue to experience heavy showers for a week.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may also prevail along and off Odisha coast till July 7.
