Bhubaneswar: At least ten districts of Odisha, including Cuttack city, are likely to be lashed by heavy rain, thundershower and lightning on Wednesday night, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a nowcast warning.
The weather agency issued an orange alert and said moderate rain, thundershower with lightning and one or two spells of intense or heavy rain may affect some parts of the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Ganjam, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Cuttack (including Cuttack City) and Kalahandi within the next three hours.
The nowcast warning, issued at 7.20 pm, said that the rain may cause water logging in low-lying areas, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban areas.
It has advised people to avoid movement in affected areas and do arrangements for drainage of excess water.
Further, people have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and act accordingly to move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
Following the warning issued by the IMD, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) spoke to the Collectors of these districts and instructed to be alert. District Emergency Operation Centres have been asked to act very actively to respond the emerging situation.
