Bhubaneswar: Intense spells of rain may continue in six districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till noon, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
Orange warning of moderate rain/thundershower with one or two intense spells of rain has been issued for Puri, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Dhenkanal during this period.
The weather agency has warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban area.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower may also occur in some parts of Kendrapada, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar and Nayagarh during this period, it added.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places.
Earlier in the day, the IMD had warned of moderate thunderstorm accompanied by squall wind speed reaching (30-40 kmph),
lightning and intense spell rain in some parts of Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Nayagarh and Angul till 8.30 am.
Under its impact, there was a possibility of minor damage to loose/unsecured structures, waterlogging in low-lying areas, minor damage to banana trees and standing crops. People were also advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
