Bhubaneswar: A day after liver of a 52-year-old brain dead person retrieved at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar saved a life, a guard of honour was given to the mortal remains of the donor here on Tuesday.
The liver of the brain dead person was sent to another city-based hospital for transplantation in an ailing patient on Monday.
The liver was harvested from Hulas Dihudi, an accident victim, who worked as a security guard.
Dihudi was walking on the road at Chhatabar on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city when he was hit by a biker causing him serious brain injury on August 31. He was rushed to IMS and SUM Hospital, where he was put on ventilator support.
The patient was declared as brain dead on Monday following which the family members decided to donate the organs which could save other lives.
During the guard of honour, Sum Hospital Medical Superintendent Prof (Dr) Pushparaj Samantasinghar, Head of Gastro Surgery Department Prof (Dr) Jyortimay Jena, DGM Operations Pushpanjali Raut, Deputy Nursing Superintendent Kaberi Rani Sahu and her team, Junior Hospital Administrator Sagar Paikaray and Saroj Senapati were present.
