ORIDL To Lay New Berhampur-Sambalpur Rly Line In Odisha

Berhampur: The Railway Ministry has granted approval for undertaking pre-investment activities for new railway line connecting Berhampur with Sambalpur, said  general manager, East Coast Railway (ECoR) Vidya Bhushan, here on Wednesday.

Speaking to media persons after inspecting Berhampur railway station, Bhusan said  the Sambalpur-Berhampur railway line will be constructed by Odisha Rail Infrastructure Development Limited (ORIDL). Besides, 79-km Gunupur-Theruvali project has been sanctioned and survey report for 223-km Berhampur-Rayagada new line completed, he added.

Taking stock of passenger amenities in the station, Bhusan said it will be developed as part of the Station Redevelopment Plan. It will be furnished with aesthetic lighting, improved signage and passenger amenities including waiting hall. Apart from this, circulating area will be beautified.

On Berhampur-Phulbani line, the general manager said a decision in this regard will be taken on the basis of the rate of return of the project to be estimated by the survey committee. He also ruled out providing a terminal point at Berhampur.

However, Bhusan said Railway team is engaged in extending the platform to accommodate full length train. This problem will be solved at the earliest, he added.
