Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Odisha government seeking its reply on the project of apartments for MLAs including felling of trees in Bhubaneswar.
Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against felling of hundreds trees for the project, the court asked secretary, General Administration department to file a reply through the affidavit mentioning the details of the project including construction of apartments, felling of trees, and plantation. The High Court scheduled next hearing of the case for June 27.
The PIL was filed by social activist Jayanti Das in the High Court on Wednesday, seeking a halt to the tree cutting spree for the construction of apartments for the MLAs.
The petitioner sought the court’s direction to save trees from being axed. The state and Central governments and eight others have been made parties in the PIL, which also prayed for adequate compensation for the trees already felled.
