Cuttack: With the Orissa High Court postponing its next hearing of the case relating to the lawyers’ agitation across the state to November 4, lawyers of the High Court Bar Association on Monday decided to continue their agitation till November 1.
Earlier in the day, the full bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice K S Jhaveri and all 13 judges conducted the hearing. Deposing before the bench, the representatives of HC Bar Association and other respondents sought four weeks to submit their replies. The Bench later posted its next hearing to November 4.
Soon after, the HC Bar Association in a general body meeting, decided to continue cease work till November 1.
“The meeting urged all the lawyers of Cuttack District Bar Association to join the cease-work till November 1. The Association will have another general body meeting on November 1 and decide its future course of action, president of the Association Gopal Krushna Mohanty told the media after the meeting.
The HC bench, while taking suo motu cognisance of the frequent strikes by lawyers, had issued notices to bar associations across the state on October 15 seeking a reply by October 21 on why the lawyers, who are frequently boycotting the court proceedings, should not be held responsible for contempt of the court.
