Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to former Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Ashirbad Behera in the Artha Tatwa chit fund scam.
The bail was granted against two sureties of Rs 1.5 lakh each. The court also directed him to surrender his passport, not to influence witnesses and cooperate in the investigation process.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Behera from his residence in Cuttack on September 19 on the basis of a non-bailable warrant over his alleged complicity in the chit fund scam.
He was admitted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on September 23 after he complained of loose motion and was then shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital here on September 26, a day after the Khurda District and Sessions Judge Court rejected his bail plea. He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since then.
Challenging the order the lower court, he had moved the High Court for bail.
