Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has directed the Commissioner of Police (CP), Bhubaneswar, to arrest the remaining seven accused who were involved in a students’ agitation at Vani Vihar Square in Odisha capital in 2015.
A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice S Muralidhar and Justice RK Pattanaik issued the order after hearing a petition filed by Maitree Sansad, a city-based social service organisation.
The petitioner had sought an SIT probe into the death of a 43-year-old woman during a road blockade staged by students of Utkal University in Bhubaneswar on September 26, 2015.
The bench directed the Commissioner to constitute a special team to trace the seven accused in the case, who have not been arrested so far. “A further direction is issued that the criminal case must be taken to its logical end,” TOI quoted the bench as saying.
The court has directed the Commissioner to file a compliance report within two months.
