Cuttack: The Orisa High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to take a decision on reopening of the schools within 2 months.
The court issued the direction after hearing a petition filed by Ranjita Mohapatra seeking reopening of schools amid COVID restrictions.
The petitioner has stated that the government has opened bars, restaurants, shopping malls and other establishments. The three-tier panchayat elections will also be held in the state.
If the government could allow these activities, why was it depriving the students of their education in schools, the petitioner asked. Stating that the life and career of students were seriously affected by prolonged closure of schools due to the pandemic, she appealed to the high court to direct the government to restart physical classes amid COVID guidelines.
