Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has framed the issues in connection with the election of Congress leader Mohammed Moquim from Barabati-Cuttack Assembly constituency.
After hearing the petition in this regard, the High Court admitted 38 issues and scheduled next hearing on the case on November 4. The petition was filed by former BJD legislator Debashis Samantaray who had appealed to the court to declare the election of Moquim as void and direct the Election Commission to conduct fresh polls for the constituency.
According to the petition, Moquim had suppressed material facts with respect to his criminal cases pending against him while filing nomination papers. He had also not disclosed correct facts about his assets and liabilities.
Samantaray had won from Barabati-Cuttack in 2009 and retained the seat in 2014. But Moquim wrested it by defeating Samantaray with a margin of 3,827 votes in the 2019 General Elections.
