Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has granted interim bail for ten days to accused Saroj Sethy in the sensational Pari murder case that had triggered a statewide outrage over two years ago.
The accused had had made a prayer before the HC to permit him interim bail citing health reasons.
As per the conditions put by the court, the accused will undergo medical examination during the interim bail period;. He has also been asked to appear before the police at nearby police station if required; he will not be allowed to meet anyone related to the case and he will surrender before the court after end of his 10-day interim bail.
Sethy, a resident of Jadupur village in Nayagarh district, is accused of killing a 5-year-old girl of his village after attempting to rape her at his house in July 2020.
The accused had reportedly confessed that he strangled the girl to death when he failed to rape her at his house on July 14, 2020.
According to reports, the accused took the minor girl to a room when he was alone at his house and attempted to sexually assault her. When the minor girl resisted and started screaming, he allegedly killed him and dumped the body near a pond.
During investigation, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that probed the incident found that the accused had put the body inside a gunny bag and dumped it in a bush near a pond in the village and covered it with coconut tree branches, they added.
