Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to three accused in triple train accident at Bahanaga in Balasore district.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested the three Railway employees in connection with the train tragedy. They are senior section engineer of Soro railway station Mohammad Amir Khan, senior section engineer (signal) Arun Kumar Mahant and technician Papu Kumar.
Following investigation, the CBI had filed chargesheet against the three persons under different Sections of IPC at the court of Additional Sessions Judge in Bhubaneswar. After hearing the case, the court had rejected the bail applications of all the three accused.
The accused had moved the High Court against the order of the sessions court and filed bail applications. A division bench of the high court’s Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra had heard the case and reserved the order.
Announcing its order on Tuesday, the division bench directed the lower to grant conditional bail to all the three accused.
It may be noted that as many as 296 people were killed in one of the most tragic train accidents that took place near Bahanaga railway station on the night of June 2, 2023.
