Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Friday rejected the bail plea of Chilika MLA Prashant Jagadev. The legislator, who was arrested on charges of ploughing his SUV into a crowd on March 12, might be sent back to jail.
The court denied him bail since the investigation into the incident is on. The MLA has been asked to surrender by May 23 failing which steps will be taken to produce him before the court concerned.
Jagadev was granted interim bail for medical treatment on April 27 and later the court allowed extension of the interim bail twice till May 11 and May 23.
It may be mentioned that the MLA had sustained grievous injuries as an irate mob assaulted him soon after he rammed his car into the crowd outside a block development office in Odisha’s Khurda district, which was a grim reminder of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
He was arrested on March 22 after being discharged from a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and lodged at Banapur Sub-Jail.
