Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday rejected the application of Chilika MLA Prashant Kumar Jagdev for anticipatory bail.
Hearing the bail application, the High Court rejected the application and directed Jagdev to apply at the lower court on October 8. It also directed the lower court to take a decision on Jagdev’s anticipatory bail application on the day it is filed.
Khurda Police had booked the MLA under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 for allegedly thrashing local BJP leader Niranjan Sethi at Balugaon of Khordha district on September 8. The BJP leader had lodged a police complaint.
Following the incident, BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik had suspended Jagdev from the party. Naveen had also removed the Chilika MLA from the post of chairperson of the Khurda District Planning Committee.
