Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has directed the CMC and OSPCB to submit a report on the quality of water quality of Kathjodi river at Khan Nagar in the city.
A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice S Muralidhar and Justice RK Pattanaik issued the direction to Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) after hearing a petition filed by Khan Nagar Khapuria Silapanchal Puja Committee in 2016.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel Khirod Rout submitted a video clip and photographs of discharge of untreated sewage into the river.
The High Court bench directed the CMC and OSPCB to depute a team to collect water samples at the point of discharge of untreated effluent at Khan Nagar and submit the laboratory report of its quality after test, according to a TNIE report.
The bench told the authorities to submit the report before the court on Saturday and directed the chairman and managing director of Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO), member secretary of the OSPCB and a representative of CMC to remain present during the next hearing.
