Mumbai: Oscar-winning Korean film ‘Parasite’ might soon land in legal trouble as Tamil producer PL Thenappan is planning to sue the filmmakers for copying the plot from his 1999 Vijay-starrer ‘Minsara Kanna’.
“On Monday or Tuesday, I will be filing a case with help from an international lawyer. They have taken the plot from my film. When they find out that some of our films have been inspired by their films, they file cases. Similarly, it is only fair for us to do the same,â
said Thenappan.
The Tamil producer is also looking forward to seek compensation from the makers of âParasiteâ for plagiarism.
Bong Joon-hoâs âParasiteâ is the first foreign language film to bag the Best Film award at the Oscars on Sunday. It also won the Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Film trophies.
While producer Thenappan is all set to file a case against the makers of âParasiteâ, âMinsara Kannaâs director, Ravikumar is happy that the story has received an Oscar.
âIâm happy that the story has received an Oscar, even if it (Minsara Kanna) served as an inspiration. However, filing a case is up to the producer,â said the director.
âParasiteâ revolves around the social discrimination between the affluent and the downtrodden.
âMinsara Kannaâ is about a poor driver, who enters the house of a rich woman with a motive.
